Mounds in Sønderskoven Als
The eastern part of forest Sønderskoven, east of Sønderborg, and the nearest fields to the east are one of the areas with the most burial mounds on the island of Als.
The open-lying dolmen chamber, Klintinghøj, can be seen from the road. In, and west of, the forest down toward the beach, over 40 grave mounds are known. The mounds on the east side of the forest 'Helshøje' are the highest, between 3 and 4 metres.
Inside the forest, there are smaller ones, ranging from tiny mounds to ones 2-3 metres high. Only one burial mound, “Rævehøj”, measures 6.50 metres in height. From the cliff Klintinghoved, you can see the two churchtowers of Broager Kirke and the mill, Dybbøl Mølle.
