Christians Church - Memorial grove

Gravestones for 4 resistance fighters and memorial stones set for 4 gendarmes who died in German concentration camps

In a corner of Østre Kirkegård at Christianskirken you will find the memorial grove where four of the five resistance fighters found buried at the military firing range, Skydestranden, were reburied in 1945 with great participation, as seen on the film from Danmark på Film.

At the large common memorial stone, there are 4 name plates for:

Anker Hansen, killed during a firefight at Strandhotellet in Kollund.

Karl Marius Laursen, killed in a firefight at Strandhotellet in Kollund.

Svend Holm, died at Sønderborg State Hospital of his injuries after being tortured by the Gestapo during interrogation.

Svend Aage Hansen, killed in a firefight at Sønderborg Harbour.

In the grove there is also a joint memorial stone for 4 gendarmes who were taken to Frøslev camp on 20 September 1944 and later died in German concentration camps:

Vagtmester, Alfred Hansen Høj. Born 19 March 1895, died in Scheidelach on 13 January 1945.

Overgendarm Hans Peter Gimm. Born 1 July 1912, died in Alt Garge on 6 December 1944.
