Juvre Engsø - Rømø

Rømø's largest freshwater lake.

The purpose of the project is to create a natural gem for the benefit of birds and amphibians in particular on the north end of Rømø, where there are currently no large areas of freshwater.

With the coastal location in the middle of the Wadden Sea and with the Wadden Sea's very large bird populations, it is expected that the future natural area with the lake, small islands, snipe and meadows will attract many birds.

Among the future breeding birds expected in the area are: spoonbill, mallard, greylag goose, merganser, tern, great black-backed guillemot, redshank, great snipe and sandpiper.

In the long term, it may also be possible to see grebes, meadow pipits, black-necked grebes, little black-backed guillemot, black-backed guillemot, sandpiper and spoonbill.

When the large bird migrations come to the Wadden Sea in the spring and autumn, a large number of ducks, geese and waders are expected to use the area as a resting place, for example during high tide in the Wadden Sea or strong winds/storms
