80 years: Memorial Service in Frøslev Camp on May 4th
On Sunday, May 4, 2025, it will be 80 years since the liberation of Denmark. This event will be commemorated at the Frøslev Camp with a large ceremony and memorial service. Participation is free of charge.
Frøslev Camp near Padborg, close to the Danish-German border, will once again serve as the setting for a memorial event on May 4.
In 2025, it will be 80 years since the freedom message was broadcast on the BBC, marking Denmark’s liberation from German occupation.
The memorial service at Frøslev Camp honors the Danish men and women of the resistance who fought against the occupying forces during the occupation.
During the final months of the war, more than 12,000 members of the resistance movement from across Denmark were imprisoned at Frøslev Camp, many of whom were later deported to concentration camps in Europe.
Today, Frøslev Camp is a national memorial park and a place of remembrance for the victims of the war.

Program:
17:00-18:30: Dinner (see information below)
18:30: The White Buses with Benjamin Koppel’s Jazz Band at the Main Guard Tower. The museums will be open during the concert.
20:00: Welcome by the chairman of D.s.i. Frøslevlejren, Mayor Jan Riber Jakobsen
20:05: Guest speech by Colonel Lars R. Møller
20:20: Wreath-laying at the memorial stone and the playing of “Last Post”
20:34: The freedom message from BBC on May 4, 1945, will sound through the camp. The Danish flag will be raised, and "Altid frejdig, når du går" will be sung.
20:40: Memorial service led by Provost Kirsten Kruchov Sønderby. After the service, "En lærke letted" will be sung.
20:50: Coffee gathering and community singing in the tent, led by Frøslev Efterskole (see information below).

Seating for the memorial service:
Must be reserved in advance no later than April 20.
If you arrive without registration, only standing places will be available, and there will be no option to purchase dinner or coffee.
